Medicinal Mint (Chinese Skullcap - Scutellaria)
Mint has healing properties that have been used by Chinese medicine for centuries. Medicinal mint, known as Chinese Skullcap or Scutellaria, its neuroprotective, anticonvulsant, antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-cancer, and liver-protective properties are widely used. For the treatment of diarrhea, dysentery, hypertension, hemorrhaging, insomnia, inflammation and respiratory infections such as bacterial pneumonia, treatment with mint works where Western medicine has failed or been lacking.
Anti-tumor Effect
Scutellaria has an apoptosis effect, causing rogue cell death, on cancer cells. Brain tumor cells, prostate cancer cells, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, some types of lung cancer cells all respond to treatment using Mint. Mint also suppresses the growth of lymphoma and myeloma cells. One of the negative issues with drugs is that they can induce mutations in the cancerous cells. Research of the baicalein flavone in the mint extract does not cause such mutations.
Antibacterial & Antiviral Treatments
Medicinal mint has significant effects on a wide range of harmful bacteria such as E-Coli, listeria, staphylococcus, salmonella, and candida. Mints' antifungal action can help with Aspergillus, which causes disease states for the immune-compromised. The actions and effects of mint are also effective in preventing HIV infection.
Studies of Scutellaria/Skullcap show that it's effective for neurodegenerative diseases as an antioxidant and anticonvulsant.
Liver Health
Herbal treatments to prevent liver diseases, hepatitis, hepatic fibrosis, and carcinoma, many have Scutellaria as the main component.
Uses for Scutellaria:
Insomnia, inflammation, diarrhea, reducing anxiety, intestinal bacteria, oxidative stress, and inhibiting cancer cells. As with any medicinal product, it's always wise to consult your practitioner if you're thinking of taking any form of Scutellaria.
